Narendra Karmarkar

Dr. Narendra Karmarkar is well-known for the Karmarkar algorithm for linear programming which was announced in 1984 and which made headlines not only in scientific publications but also the mass media. His algorithm and its variations are preferred over simplex. The method used in his algorithm has revived interest in interior methods, which are currently an important area of research in mathematical programming.

He has worked at American Microsystems, IBM San Jose, AT & T Bell Laboratories, Princeton University, and TIFR Bombay. Among several awards, he has received, President of India Medal, Fellow of Bell Laboratories, Distinguished Alumnus Award from IIT Bombay and UC Berkeley. He has 6 patents to his credit. Dr. Karmarkar is regularly invited to make presentations in important international conference in his field of interest.

PanIIT Regional Alumni Conference in June 23-25 in Toronto is being held at a wonderful Canadian Resort this Summer.
Rabiz Foda, Conference Chair-person would like you all to come and enjoy the warm canadian hospitality. I suggest you combine this trip with family vacation to Canada this June. This opportunity will bond all twelve alumni population centers in North America: USA and Canada — under a common banner.

We are very excited to have Nimish Mehta as the guest speaker for our next fireside chat event on May 14th, 2006. Nimish will speak from his years of experience working at companies like SAP, Siebel Systems and Oracle where he has overseen many acquisitions.

If you are an entrepreneur with a small startup and trying to figure out the best exit strategy for your company, then this is a must attend event. You will get to know what happens on the other side of the table, what is it that the potential acquirer is looking for. It should help you decide on what signals to send out and what not to. Also, learn how to strengthen your case against a possible competitor.

The event will start off with a formal talk by Nimish but we are hoping that there will be a long informal Q&A session where Nimish will take your questions. So, bring your inquisitive self to the table. The event details including registration, directions, schedule can be accessed from http://bayarea.iitdef.org/UpcomingEvent.

Yours truly,
Gaurav Garg
